On-time rent payments fell in Florida at the beginning of May; landlords brace for worse if unemployment system not fixed soon

The percentage or rent payments made by tenants in Florida between May 1-6 declined by 4.2 percentage points in Florida and by even larger margins in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, according to newly released data. While an industry trade group of large- to midsize landlords say tenants who can afford to pay their rent are “stepping up,” the organization says it is still concerned about what will happen to millions of out-of-work tenants who cannot won’t be able to access unemployment benefits, or whose benefits won’t cover costs.
