Florida lawmakers OK $73M plan to upgrade CONNECT unemployment site to a cloud system

Florida is moving ahead with a plan to fix its antiquated unemployment website, an undertaking that would take two years and cost an estimated $73 million. But proposals to make other changes to the state’s beleaguered system, including increasing the number of weeks and increasing the weekly payments, remain in limbo.

The unemployment rate for the Orlando metropolitan area was 5.8%, the fifth-highest in the state behind the Miami area, the Homosassa Springs region in Citrus County, the Sebring area in Highlands County and the Villages metro area. The jobless rate for the Miami metropolitan area was 8.1%.
