Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Tuesday that electric car company Tesla has committed to building a plant in the industrial hub of Monterrey in northern Mexico.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Tuesday that the company will build the plant with a series of commitments to address the problem of water scarcity. The plant investment is expected to be about $1 billion, Reuters reported.
Drivers struck and killed 3,434 people in the first six months of 2022, an increase of 168 deaths from the same period a year earlier.
Tesla and its Chief Executive Elon Musk were sued Monday by shareholders who accused them of overstating the effectiveness and safety of their electric vehicles’ Autopilot and Full Self-Driving technologies.
