Fried shrimp with a dead fly among reasons 9 Central Florida restaurants shut down last week
Nine Central Florida restaurants were temporarily shut down after restaurant inspections in the week of June 11-17, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Orange County
Ahmed Indian Restaurant UCF Orlando at 10042 University Blvd. in Orlando shut down on June 12.
Officials found six violations, three of which were a high priority.
Those violations include roach activity, a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse and food held at the wrong temperatures.
A second visit on June 13 found zero violations.
The restaurant met inspection standards.
Boteco Do Manolo at 7653 International Dr. Suite 105 in Orlando on June 13.
Inspectors found 34 violations, nine of which were a high priority. Those violations include an employee failing to wash hands before putting on gloves to cook food, roach activity, an improperly stored chemical substance, a missing vacuum breaker and raw food not being separated from ready-to-eat food.
A second inspection happened on June 14.
Inspectors found nine violations, none of which were a high priority.
The restaurant met inspection standards.
Volusia County
D’Amore’s at 300 Flagler Ave. Suite A in New Smyrna Beach shut down on June 13.
Officials found 15 violations, five of which were a high priority. Those violations include an employee touching food with their bare hands, rodent activity, uncovered rodent bait and food held at the wrong temperatures.
Officials revisited the restaurant on June 14. They found seven violations and issued a time extension for food held at the wrong temperatures.
The restaurant needs a follow-up inspection before reopening.
Osceola County
Kabab House & NY Pizza at 3293 Oxford Dr. in Kissimmee shut down on June 12.
Officials visited the restaurant several times from June 12 to June 16.
They initially shut the restaurant down on June 12 after finding seven violations, four of which were a high priority. Those violations include an employee failing to wash their hands before touching the food, an expired business license and rodent activity. A second inspection the same day found 16 violations and the restaurant required a follow-up inspection before reopening.
Officials revisited the restaurant on June 13, 14, and 15, finding five, five, and four violations, respectively. The facility remained closed. Officials conducted four inspections on June 16. They found 16 violations twice and four violations on the final two inspections.
The facility is still closed.
Grill And Wings II Llc at 377 Cypress Parkway in Kissimmee on June 13.
The officials found 30 violations, eight of which were a high priority. Those violations include an employee touching a trash can before touching the food, flying insects in the kitchen, roach activity and using soiled utensils to prepare the food.
A second inspection took place on June 14. Officials found 17 violations, four of which were a high priority. Those violations include time extensions for an employee not washing their hands before touching the food, nonfood-grade bags touching ready-to-eat food and food held at the wrong temperatures.
The restaurant met inspection standards.
Saloon Canton Llc at 2959 Vineland Road in Kissimmee shut down on June 15.
Officials found 20 violations, eight of which were a high priority. Those violations include an employee preparing food without gloves, raw animal food not being separated from ready-to-eat food, a stop-sale on food for not being in wholesome condition and a chef frying shrimp with a dead fly inside the pan.
A second inspection the same day found 14 violations, with time extensions for several of the violations found in the first inspection.
The restaurant met inspection standards.
Seminole County
Koy Wan Hibachi Buffet at 945 W. State Rd. 436, #1179, Altamonte Springs shut down on June 14.
Officials found 22 violations, six of which were a high priority. Those violations include flying insects, an employee washing hands without soap, roach activity and three flies found on restaurant food in the preparation area.
A second inspection took place on June 15. Inspectors found three violations, none of which were a high priority.
The restaurant met inspection standards.
Never Phoget A Taste Of Vietnam 505 State Road 436 in Casselberry shut down on June 14.
Officials found two violations, one of which was a high priority for roach activity.
They conducted two more visits on June 15.
Both inspections had two violations for roach activity.
The restaurant met inspection standards after taking corrective action.
Complaints and warnings
Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida, with 36.
Volusia had 15, Osceola had 17, Lake had four, Brevard had 13 and Seminole had four. Warnings given with required follow-up inspections could lead to a business being shut down if problems remain.
