Trump classified documents trial date set in Fort Pierce

The federal judge overseeing former President Donald J. Trump’s classified documents case has set a potential trial date for mid-August in Fort Pierce.

The surprise order from U.S. District Aileen Cannon, who is based in Fort Pierce, was posted in the case docket early Tuesday. It comes before the arraignment of Trump valet Waltine Nauta, the case’s sole co-defendant who is scheduled to make his first court appearance before a federal magistrate in Miami on June. 27.

In her omnibus order setting trial date and establishing pretrial instructions and sentencing procedures, the judge wrote that the case is now set “for a Criminal Jury Trial during the two-week period commencing August 14, 2023, or as soon thereafter as the case may be called.”

A scheduling conference is set for Aug. 8, and all  hearings will be held at the Alto Lee Adams, Sr. United States Courthouse in Fort Pierce, according to the order.

Trump pleaded not guilty last week before a federal magistrate in Miami.
