Rats, crawling and flying bugs among reasons 4 Central Florida restaurants shut down last week

Four Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of July 16-22, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Lake

Burgerim at 2447 S. US Highway 27 in Clermont shut down on July 18. Inspectors found 20 violations, six of which were a high priority. Those violations included an employee touching a soiled towel and then engaging in food prep without washing their hands, the restaurant operating with an expired business license, roach activity and wastewater backing up through the floor drains.

Officials revisited the restaurant on July 19. They found three violations, none of which were a high priority.

The restaurant met inspection standards.

Seminole

Never Phoget A Taste Of Vietnam at 505 State Road 436 in Casselberry shut down on July 18. Officials found eight violations, two of which were a high priority for raw food next to unwashed produce and roach activity. A second inspection the same day found three violations and a time extension for the roach activity.

A third inspection took place on July 19. Inspectors found the same three violations they found the day before.

A fourth inspection again took place on July 19. Officials found one violation, none of which was a high priority.

The restaurant met inspection standards.

Volusia

Royal Indian Foods at 144 Ridgewood Ave. in Holly Hill shut down on July 20. Inspectors found 16 violations, three of which were a high priority. Those violations included flying insects in the kitchen, roach activity at the prep table and food held at the wrong temperatures.

Officials conducted two more investigations on July 21. Inspectors found eight violations on the first inspection and six violations on the second inspection. No violations were a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Brevard

Island Waterfront Bar and Grill at 1891 E. Merritt Island Causeway in Merritt Island shut down on July 20. Inspectors found 22 violations, seven of which were a high priority. Those violations included rodent activity, a pesticide-emitting strip in the food prep area, flying insects and raw animal food not separated from ready-to-eat food.

Officials revisited the restaurant on July 21. They found one violation, issuing a time extension for the rodent activity.

The restaurant met inspection standards.

Complaints and warnings

Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida, with 39.

Volusia had 38, Brevard had 13, Seminole had 12, Osceola had seven and Lake had six. Warnings given with required follow-up inspections could lead to a business being shut down if problems remain.
