Disney Cruise Line reveals Marvel takeover plus itineraries for Disney Destiny

Disney Cruise Line let loose more details for new ship Disney Destiny coming to Florida in 2025 including a spate of Marvel-themed takeovers on the ship while also revealing an overview of its itineraries.

The 144,000-gross-ton, 4,000-passenger vessel will begin sailing with its maiden voyage in November 2025 from Port Everglades followed by an inaugural season of four- and five-night voyages to the Bahamas and western Caribbean.

Full itineraries have yet to be released, but all sailings will visit one or both of Disney’s private Bahamas islands, Castaway Cay or the newly opened Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. The general public can book sailings on Sept. 12 although the cruise line’s Castaway Club members can book as early as Sept. 6.

Disney Cruise Line’s new ship Disney Destiny will call Port Everglades home

The ship is the third in the Wish class for the line, which debuted with Disney Wish in 2022 and will be joined by this year’s Disney Treasure, both of which sail out of Port Canaveral. Disney Destiny will sail alongside Disney Dream out of the South Florida port, which became DCL’s second Florida home for year-round sailing when it took over Cruise Terminal 4 in late 2023.

The cruise line revealed several new and a few returning Marvel-themed features coming to the ship on Thursday on the final day of a three-day rollout of news for the vessel.

“The heroes and villains theme of the Disney Destiny provides the perfect platform for us to collaborate with Disney Cruise Line on all-new, Marvel-inspired experiences guests won’t find anywhere else on land or at sea across the multiverse,” said Brian Crosby, an executive with Marvel Experiences Development in a press release. “We’re honoring some of our classic heroes like Black Panther and Spider-Man on board, and we’re celebrating the larger-than-life personalities of the Avengers as inspiration for one-of-a-kind venues.”

That includes Spider-Man and some of his “Spider-Bots” taking on the duties as stern character, making it the first time a nontraditional Disney character has taken on that role.

The DCL fleet’s previous stern characters have been Goofy for Disney Magic, Donald Duck and his nephews for Disney Wonder, Fantasia Mickey  directing some mops for Disney Dream, Dumbo for Disney Fantasy, Rapunzel for Disney Wish and Peter Pan and Captain Hook for Disney Treasure.

The stern characters are designed to look as if they are painting the filigreed name of the ship.

Also expected to grab attention will be the Grand Hall’s main statue as well as its décor. As the main hub of ship activity, a figure of T’Challa, the King of Wakanda — aka the Black Panther — will lord over the space in his superhero garb.

Imagineers worked with the “Black Panther” films’ costume team to create the space “including metalwork on the pillars inspired by the banded armor and stacked jewelry found in Wakanda.” according to the release. “A breathtaking light fixture inspired by Vibranium — the rare metallic ore found in the fictional nation — will generate show-stopping effects that fill the room with life and color.”

The space like its sister ships features a small stage and 360-degree lighting effects for interactive experiences throughout the sailing.

The Wakanda theme spills over into a two-story entertainment space called Saga that is home to shows and events similar to Disney Wish’s Luna and Disney Treasure’s Sarabi spaces that act as family fun theaters during the day and adult entertainment at night.

One other new space pulling from Marvel is The Sanctum, an entertainment parlor themed to “Doctor Strange.”

In addition to hosting activities throughout the sailing, it will offer up “a magical array of cocktails, spirits and coffees” amid displays of mystical items from the character’s New York Sanctum featured in the films. That incudes a circular mirror behind the bar to mimic the building’s iconic window.

The most spacious suite on the ship will also be themed to Marvel. Called the Destiny Tower Suite, it acts as the penthouse pulling from Iron Man-themed industrial designs with “armor-like materials and mechanical elements” balanced with “soft, inviting finishes to create an opulent experience.”

With almost 2,000 square feet of space, the two-story suite is set within the ship’s forward funnel offering views of the top deck and space to sleep eight. It has areas for sleeping, dining and play along with a full kitchen and private ensuite elevator.

Just like other suite-level offerings, its guests will have access to a private sun deck as well as the Concierge Lounge, which will be themed to “The Avengers.”

Two more Marvel-themed spaces found on its sister ships will return as well.

The Oceaneer Club for kids ages 3-12 will have its own Marvel Super Hero Academy alongside spaces themed to Star Wars, Disney Princesses, Mickey and Minnie and Disney Imagineers.

For Disney Destiny, the third iteration of the themed dining experience Worlds of Marvel will feature the duo of Rocket and Groot from “Guardians of the Galaxy” as hosts. (Courtesy/Disney)

And returning as one of the three main complimentary rotational dining spaces will be the World of Marvel restaurant. This time, though, instead of being led by Ant-Man and The Wasp, its main feature will be tied to the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise.

Rocket and Groot will host the dinner theater experience that will be a tribute to all sorts of Marvel superheroes.

“Groot will take over the proceedings and bring the festivities to the next level like only he can, organizing the ultimate surprise party for his friend Rocket — just in time for dessert,” the release said. “The story will unfold onscreen as guests eat to the beat of an ‘awesome mix’ of hit songs and test their knowledge of the Marvel Universe with trivia and activities for the whole family.”

Other Marvel footprints will be found in the form of meet-and-greets throughout the ship.

With it being the final day of releases about the ship, the line also confirmed several returning spaces found on its sister ships and two of the planned main stage entertainment options coming on board.

“Frozen, A Musical Spectacular,” will be making its third appearance on a DCL ship after also among the main entertainment on board Disney Fantasy and Wonder.

Also coming on board for a third time is “Disney Seas the Adventure,” featuring Captain Minnie Mouse and Goofy on a show that appears on both Disney Wish and the forthcoming Disney Treasure.

Sailings will also feature the Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party with a live rock band and the line’s popular fireworks at sea.

No new theatrical production was announced.

For dining, the line had already announced a dinner theater space dedicated to “The Lion King” as well as the updated Worlds of Marvel. The third space will be the return of the California cuisine space 1923, named after the year Walt Disney’s animation studio opened. The space will feature more than 1,000 drawings, props and other items highlighting the company’s heroes and villains from films including “Hercules,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Big Hero 6,” “Wreck-It Ralph” and more.

More free dining comes via the Marceline Market buffet and Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods with food stations including Mickey’s Smokestack BBQ, Donald’s Cantina, Daisy’s Pizza Pies, Goofy’s Grill and Minnie’s Delights.

Extra-fee dining will return as well, with Italian-leaning Palo Steakhouse and the French-inspired fine dining found at Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement. The ship will also see the return of the “Beauty and the Beast”-themed bar The Rose.

Other returning spaces include the Hero Zone recreation space, 10 pool and water play spaces, a pair of cinemas, the Senses spa and fitness center, Untangled Salon, Hook’s Barbery with its tiny bourbon bar, adults-only Quiet Cove area, it’s a small world nursery, the Edge space for tweens and Vibe club space for teens.

Disney Cruise Line divulges villainous details coming to Disney Destiny

Other new and returning spaces announced earlier this week include a sweets shop themed to “The Incredibles,” an adults-only piano bar themed to Cruella de Vil from “One Hundred and One Dalmatians,” a rum pub themed to “Pirates of the Caribbean” and the second iteration of Haunted Mansion Parlor.

Disney Destiny will become the cruise line’s eighth vessel. Disney Magic debuted in 1998 with sister ship Wonder following in 1999. It then welcomed Disney Dream in 2011 and Fantasy in 2012. Its biggest expansion ever began in 2022 with the debut of Wish followed by this year’s Treasure. It will also welcome Disney Adventure, which is headed to Singapore, in 2025 followed by Destiny. Then by 2029, a fourth Wish-class vessel will join the fleet sailing from Japan with an agreement made with the company that runs the Disney theme parks in that country.

All Wish-class vessels run on liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that is part of the cruise industry’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
