Disney visit: Josh Gad embraces Candlelight, Figment, MuppetVision, more

Actor Josh Gad has been making the rounds at Walt Disney World, pulling Candlelight Processional duties at Epcot but otherwise working his way through the theme parks, interacting with cast members, having meta Olaf moments and making a suggestion or two to Imagineers.

Gad, a native of Hollywood, Florida, and an official Disney Legend, was the first narrator for this season’s Candlelight Processional, the long-running holiday event with mass choir, live orchestra and celebrity reader.

Before his first of six readings, he mentioned his Disney credits, including as Olaf the snowman in the “Frozen” franchise and before the first of his six readings, including as LeFou in 2017’s live-action “Beauty and the Beast” film. He also referenced his time playing Elder Cunningham in the Broadway musical “The Book of Mormon.”

“This show is going to be very, very different from that one,” Gad told the Candlelight audience. “The only thing those two have in common is the word ‘Hello.’”

Gad quipped more before getting down to biblical business.

“I’m essentially just a warm-up act for Neil Patrick Harris at this point,” he said of the frequent Candlelight narrator. “I’m thrilled to be here as we prepare for his version of the Epcot Eras tour.”

Holidays at the theme parks: What’s new?

Other stops during Gad’s stay were documented on social media platforms.

During “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parade” at Magic Kingdom, Gad’s video is taken from the railroad station at park entrance. He yells down to the “Frozen” float, and the Olaf character looks up and waves.

Another Olaf moment happened during a projection show onto Cinderella Castle.

“When you walk out of the bathroom … and you are surrounded by the sound of your own voice. #outofbodyexperience” Gad wrote.

From Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Gad posted a selfie outside “MuppetVision 4D,” an attraction that Disney recently indicated it will close down. “One last ride. Paying my respects to the GOAT,” Gad wrote. “Thank you for always making me smile. We shall miss you dearly.”

At Epcot, Gad took a photo of Figment and called out to Walt Disney Imagineering. “Call me. We need to give this guy the ride update he deserves,” he posted, supplemented with the praying hand emoji.

Other Gad images were with Mickey Mouse, with Kevin, the big bird from “Up” and a cast member named Summer, something Olaf is fond of. He also visited with the cast of “Drawn to Life,” the Cirque du Soleil show produced at Disney Springs.

Upcoming projects for the actor include “Adulthood” and “The Angry Birds Movie 3.” He’s attached to direct a biopic about Chris Farley, and his memoir “In Gad We Trust: A Tell Some” will be published in January.

“I am thrilled to share my stories with all of you as I tackle fame, fatherhood, faith, Florida, secrets from some of your favorite films and even topics that don’t begin with the letter F, all while giving you something hilarious and brutally honest to read,” Gad told People magazine.

At the end of his first Candlelight Processional this year, Gad talked about passing by the Epcot theater with his family in the early 1990s.

“I remember seeing somebody up here doing this. And I said to myself, “Man, I hope one day I get to do that,’” he said. “I am pure evidence that dreams really do come true.”
