Inspections led to 7 Central Florida restaurant shutdowns last week
Seven Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of Dec. 8-14, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Orange County
Hon Lee LLC at 18 N. Dollins Ave. K14/15 in Orlando shut down on Dec. 10. Inspectors found 20 violations, three of which were high priorities. Those violations included roach activity, food not being cooled from 135 degrees and a stop-sale issued on food due to temperature abuse. Authorities conducted a second inspection on Dec. 11. They found 16 violations, and issued time extensions for two high-priority violations dealing with temperature abuse. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Sister Soul Food at 436 S. Parramore Ave. in Orlando shut down on Dec. 12. Inspectors found 11 violations, two of which were high priorities. Those violations included a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection the same day found seven violations, two of which were high priorities. Authorities issued a time extension on both. A follow-up inspection is required but the restaurant has reopened.
Volusia
Poncho’s Tacos & Ice Cream at 201 Seabreeze Blvd. in Daytona Beach shut down on Dec. 9. Inspectors found 45 violations, 13 of which were high-priorities. Those violations included flying insects, rodent nesting materials, an improperly stored toxic substance and an employee failing to wash their hands before working with food. Another inspection the same day found 30 violations and required a follow-up. A third and final inspection occurred on Dec. 10. Officials found 19 violations, six of which were high priorities. They issued time extensions and although another follow-up inspection is required, the restaurant has reopened as it poses no immediate threat to the public.
China Master at 1700 W. International Speedway Blvd. Suite 148 in Daytona Beach shut down on Dec. 12. Inspectors found 32 violations, six of which were high priorities. Those violations included employees working with food without first washing their hands, rodent activity and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection occurred on Dec. 13. Authorities found 13 violations but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Yolo Rollo at 1700 W. International Speedway Blvd. Suite 153 shut down on Dec. 12. Inspectors found six violations, three of which were high priorities. Those violations included roach excrement, rodent activity and bleach stored near soda boxes. A second inspection occurred on Dec. 13. One violation wasn’t a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Smyrna Yacht Club at 1201 S Riverside Dr. in New Smyrna Beach shut down on Dec. 13. Inspectors found eight violations, four of which were high priorities. Those violations included rodent activity, gnaw marks on a plastic peanut container lid and food not consumed or sold within seven days. A second inspection occurred the same day. There were no violations. The restaurant complied with the emergency order.
Ocean Breeze Bar & Grill at 521 Flagler Ave. in New Smyrna Beach shut down on Dec. 12. Inspectors found 19 violations, six of which were high priorities. Those violations included chicken not cooked to the minimum internal temperature, a missing vacuum breaker and rodent activity. A second inspection the same day found 12 violations, two of which were high priorities. Authorities allowed time extensions for those violations and ordered a follow-up inspection. The restaurant poses no immediate threat to the public and has reopened.
Complaints and warnings
Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida, with 31.
Osceola had 21, Volusia had 14, Seminole had 12 and Lake and Brevard had four each.
