7 Central Florida restaurants shut down last week
Seven Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of April 6-12, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Orange
El Palacio Buffet at 7403 S. Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando shut down on April 8. Inspectors found 10 violations, two of which were high priorities. Those violations included raw food not separated from ready-to-eat food and roach activity. A second inspection the same day found 17 violations and included an additional high priority for single-use gloves not being changed as needed. On April 9, a third and final inspection occurred. Authorities found three violations and none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Bon Appetit Grill at 4534 S. Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando shut down on April 9. Inspectors found seven violations, two of which were high priorities for rodent activity and temperature safety control for food. During a second inspection the same day, inspectors found three violations, including more rodent activity. On April 10, a third and final inspection occurred. There were two violations and none was a high priority. The restaurant requires a follow-up inspection but poses no threat to the public.
Piki Head Island Grille at 3592 Aloma Ave. Suite 2 in Winter Park shut down on April 10. Inspectors found eight violations, three of which were high priorities for an employee failing to wash their hands, a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse and food being held at the wrong temperature. A second inspection occurred on April 11. Inspectors found one violation. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Brevard
Ako Sushi And Seafood at 725 N. Washington Ave. in Titusville shut down on April 10. Inspectors found 10 violations, two of which were high priorities for roach activity and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection occurred on April 11. There were four violations, with one high priority for roach activity. The restaurant remained closed. After failing another inspection on April 12, the restaurant finally met inspection standards on April 14.
Sushi Factory at 4455 W. New Haven Ave. in Melbourne shut down on April 9. Inspectors found 24 violations, three of which were high priorities for an expired business licence, food-contact surfaces not being cleaned and sewage/wastewater backing up through the floor drains. A second inspection occurred the same day. There were 15 violations and a time extension for having clean food-contact surfaces. The restaurant requires a follow-up inspection but poses no threat to the public.
Volusia
Jerry’s Italian Grill & Tiki Bar at 33 Inlet Harbor Road at Ponce Inlet shut down on April 10. Inspectors found 21 violations, three of which were high priorities for raw food not separated from ready-to-eat food, rodent activity and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection occurred the same day. There were 16 violations and a time extension for rodent activity. On April 11, a third and final inspection found six violations. None was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Strouds Hog Heaven at 37 N. Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach shut down on April 7. Inspectors found eight violations, one of which was a high priority for rodents. A second inspection occurred the same day. There were four violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Complaints and warnings
Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida with 36.
Volusia and Brevard had 17, Seminole had 12, Osceola had eight and Lake had seven.
