Volkswagen of America’s Chattanooga Assembly plant restarted operations Tuesday after a one-day deep cleaning to fight the spread of the coronavirus. Its parent company is preparing to shut down vehicle production in Europe.
A GM employee who works at the Cole Engineering Center has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The person is the first GM employee in North America known to have the virus.

The automaker said it was halting production at the facilities in line with government guidelines in those countries that are aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus. The shutdowns do not affect vehicles exported to the U.S.
Regular rides and the company’s food delivery platform Uber Eats remain available, but Uber said it was in contact with local authorities to adjust operations as needed.
