With Florida still reeling from the COVID-19 shutdown, Gov. Ron DeSantis has extended the moratorium on evictions and signed on to the federal government’s unemployment supplement plan. Those are good move, but they are basically Band-Aids. There are long-term solutions to Florida’s economic problems, like ending corporate tax breaks that have made the state a tax haven for big businesses. Lawmakers need to look at that and other measures because Band-Aids won’t fix the problems.
