UCF’s Gus Malzhan sells Via Tuscany home in less than 24 hours

UCF’s Gus Malzhan sells Via Tuscany home in less than 24 hours

UCF football coach Gus Malzahn and his wife, Kristi, didn’t have to wait long to find a buyer for their Winter Park home.

The 7,535-square-foot home on Via Tuscany hit the market Tuesday with a $5.99 million price tag and went under contract the next day.

“Yes, we are under contract!” listing agent Brandon Geers with Compass Florida told GrowthSpotter. “Between our marketing and pricing, I think we nailed [it]. We were able to create a ton of buzz from the moment we went live and secured a buyer within 24 hours.”

The Malzahns aren’t leaving the neighborhood.

“They’ve already bought a new home a couple blocks away, and they’re just they’re just downsizing,” Geers said. “This is a lot of house for them, and it’s just the two of them.”

Geers was not involved in that purchase.

The house the couple is selling has five bedrooms in the main house and an additional one in a guest suite above a garage.

“It’s one-of-a-kind. It’s refreshing to see a house that has some character and charm instead of some of these new builds where you walk in and it’s one giant room and everything’s white and no real character,” Geers said. “In this house, you can tell it was built with some meticulous craftsmanship and every detail was meticulously designed.” read more

Cats on the moon? Google’s AI tool is producing misleading responses that have experts worried

Cats on the moon? Google’s AI tool is producing misleading responses that have experts worried

By MATT O’BRIEN and ALI SWENSON (Associated Press)

Ask Google if cats have been on the moon and it used to spit out a ranked list of websites so you could discover the answer for yourself.

Now it comes up with an instant answer generated by artificial intelligence — which may or may not be correct.

“Yes, astronauts have met cats on the moon, played with them, and provided care,” said Google’s newly retooled search engine in response to a query by an Associated Press reporter.

It added: “For example, Neil Armstrong said, ‘One small step for man’ because it was a cat’s step. Buzz Aldrin also deployed cats on the Apollo 11 mission.”

None of this is true. Similar errors — some funny, others harmful falsehoods — have been shared on social media since Google this month unleashed AI overviews, a makeover of its search page that frequently puts the summaries on top of search results.

The new feature has alarmed experts who warn it could perpetuate bias and misinformation and endanger people looking for help in an emergency. read more

Hitting the road? Expect higher gas prices over Memorial Day

Hitting the road? Expect higher gas prices over Memorial Day

By Taryn Phaneuf | NerdWallet

Memorial Day weekend promises to be a big one for road trips, and that means gas prices are going to jump.

As of May 20, a gallon of regular gas costs $3.58 on average in the U.S., according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Through the summer, gas prices are expected to average $3.70 per gallon nationally.

Summer driving season kicks off

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of the summer travel season in the U.S. Factoring in all forms of transportation, AAA predicts 43.8 million people will travel this holiday weekend, making it the busiest Memorial Day since 2005, according to its travel forecast released May 13.

Most of those travelers will go by car. AAA expects a record-high 38.4 million people will roadtrip 50 miles or more over the holiday weekend. That would make it the biggest crowd of roadtrippers since 2000, when AAA started tracking.

A surge in demand for fuel will play a role in rising prices ahead of the weekend.

Expect prices to look like last year

There are several reasons why gas prices go up, but a big one at this time of year is seasonal demand. In a normal year, drivers can expect to see a summer spike in prices just because there are more people on the road. read more
