With Starliner up in the air, SpaceX moves forward with billionaire’s Polaris Dawn spaceflight

Billionaire Jared Isaacman may not have to wait too much longer to get back to space as SpaceX aims to launch his Polaris Dawn mission by the end of the month from Kennedy Space Center.

Liftoff is now slated for no earlier than Aug. 26, according to an update Wednesday from the Polaris Program’s social media. A SpaceX Falcon 9 aims to take off from KSC’s Launch Pad 39-A sending Isaacman and three crewmates riding in the Crew Dragon Resilience, making its third spaceflight after debuting on Crew-1 in 2020 and then following up with Inspiration4 in 2021.

“Things are happening, we’re back on-track for launch!:” posted Sarah Gillis, a SpaceX employee and one of the three other crewmates joining Isaacman.

Isaacman first made it to space on the Inspiration4 mission in 2021, a three-day orbital flight that raised more than $240 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on what became the first all-commercial crew of a human spaceflight. read more

Luxury Kimpton hotel slated for entertainment district at Kia Center

A boutique luxury Kimpton Hotel is headed to downtown Orlando’s mixed-use sports and entertainment district across from the Kia Center.

The Wednesday morning announcement from the co-developers of the Westcourt project, JMA Ventures and Machete Group,  marks a significant milestone in the development of the much-anticipated district surrounding the home of the Orlando Magic, according to a report in GrowthSpotter.

The Kimpton Orlando, an IHG Hotels & Resorts property, will occupy the first 11 floors of a 27-story mixed-use tower. It will mark the brand’s entry into the Orlando market and its seventh location in Florida.

The development team will break ground by the end of the year on the estimated $500 million arena district that will transform the property once home to the city’s police headquarters and Orlando Union Mission. The Orlando City Council voted earlier this year to approve an incentive package that includes $2.5 million to fund the construction of meeting space and $40 million in property tax abatements over about a decade. read more
