Holy son of Odin! Developer names streets after Thor characters
Marvel fans can rejoice. If you’ve ever wanted to live on Thor Road, this could be your chance.
A developer has filed plans with Haines City in Polk County for a 736-home subdivision that pays homage to the mythic Norse God of Thunder and his family, according to a report in GrowthSpotter.
Feeling mischievous? You could one day buy a house on Loki Lane or Kraken Court.
In submitting a preliminary plat for Wynnstone, developer Cassidy Homes included a set of proposed street names related to the otherworldly Avenger. In addition to Thor and Loki, characters such as Odin and Freya and the mythical realm of Asgard would all have streets named for them.
What about Thor’s evil sister, Hela, who brought about Ragnarock? Let’s just say she was cast out of the neighborhood, so to speak.
The Haines City Commission is set to consider in July Cassidy’s proposed Wynnstone subdivision, which also calls for two school sites near AdventHealth Heart of Florida Hospital.
The land-use amendment covers 397 acres that includes the 367 acres voluntarily annexed by Haines City in 2020 on which Wynnstone and the schools will be built, and 30 acres involuntarily annexed to “keep it kind of straight,” city planner April Brown told the Planning Commission at a June 12 meeting. She said the involuntary acres are either wetlands or with no access to them.
A site plan from Tampa-based Absolute Engineering shows 467 40-foot lots and 269 50-foot lots to be built in three phases. The plan replaces an earlier version with a slightly higher home count. The school sites will be for a middle school and an elementary school, Brown said.
