Rats, roaches, and rodents shut down 4 Central Florida restaurants last week

Four Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Osceola County

Jj’s Exquisite Dining at 872 Cypress Parkway in Kissimmee shut down on Aug. 28. Inspectors found 15 violations, two of which were a high priority for flying insects and roach activity.

Officials conducted a second visit on Aug. 29. Inspectors found 12 violations, but none were a high priority.

The restaurant met inspection standards.

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery #1132 at 5170 W. Irlo Bronson Highway in Kissimmee shut down on Aug. 28. Inspectors found 18 violations, five of which were a high priority.

Those violations include flying insects, an employee using soiled equipment in food preparation, rodent activity, raw food stored next to ready-to-eat food and food held at the wrong temperatures.

Officials revisited the restaurant on Aug. 31. They found 11 violations and issued a time extension for the employee using soiled utensils during food preparation.

The restaurant met inspection standards.

Seminole County

Seminole BBQ Company at 640 S. County Road 419 in Chuluota shut down on Aug. 29. Inspectors found 12 violations, seven of which were a high priority.

Those violations include roach activity and excrement, a missing vacuum breaker an employee drinking while preparing food and a stop-dale issued on food due to temperature abuse.

A second inspection the same day found three violations and a time extension on one of the high-priority violations.

Officials requested a follow-up inspection.

On Sept. 1, they conducted the final inspection. Inspectors found two violations, but the restaurant met inspection standards.

Bonfires at 1340 Alafaya Trail in Oviedo shut down on Sept. 1. Inspectors found 31 violations, seven of which were a high priority.

Those violations included a pesticide-emitting stripping in the food preparation area, roach activity and excrement, rodent activity and a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse.

On the same day, inspectors conducted another inspection. They found 16 violations, none were a high priority.

The restaurant met inspection standards.

Complaints and warnings

Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida, with 23.

Volusia had 15, Brevard had 12, Lake had two, Osceola had six and Seminole had four. Warnings given with required follow-up inspections could lead to a business being shut down if problems remain.
