‘Insanely rising costs’ shut down Altamonte Springs restaurant
An Altamonte Springs restaurant is closing, citing “insanely rising costs” as the reason for the shutdown.
Chicago Dog & Co. at 1113 W. State Road 436 posted on Facebook on Wednesday that it would be closing “indefinitely” on Sunday.
“We did everything we could think of to muscle through and although our community and customers have been steadfast and loyal, we realistically cannot sustain the insanely rising costs of pretty much everything,” the post said.
The eatery opened in 2021.
Restaurants have faced more expensive food costs and higher wages for employees in the past few years since the coronavirus pandemic transformed the industry. Some high-profile restaurants such as Winter Park’s The Coop have shut their doors citing higher rent costs.
Operators have also reported declines in customer traffic for five consecutive months, according to the National Restaurant Association’s August Restaurant Performance Index.
