Busch Gardens: SkyRide returning to operation

The SkyRide is returning to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay after a multiyear absence from the theme park.

The suspended gondola attraction, which glides over multiple lands and animal habitats, is scheduled to return to service Friday. It has not been in operation since the pandemic shutdown of 2020. The park, part of Orlando-based SeaWorld Entertainment, confirmed its eventual return last summer.

The attraction had been part of the Busch Gardens lineup since its opening in 1974. It currently moves over the park’s Serengeti Plain and into the Stanleyville area about 50 feet above the ground.

Busch Gardens is charging $5 (atop regular park admission) for SkyRide trips, although annual passholders ride for free. Tickets are purchased only at the boarding stations in Stanleyville and Cheetah Hunt Plaza.

Universal’s Epic move could prompt Disney to up its game, too, experts say

There is no height requirement, although visitors under 56 inches tall may not ride alone. They must be accompanied by a rider taller than 56 inches and at least 14 years old.

SeaWorld Orlando has charged various rates for its Sky Tower experience, which gives an in-the-round view from 400 feet up. After the pandemic, the price was $5 (free for annual passholders). The park’s website currently lists Sky Tower tickets for a “nominal fee.”
