Church-turned-townhome goes on sale for $1.899 million in Lake Eola Heights

A unique townhome is for sale in Lake Eola Heights.

The 3,713-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath residence is one of five townhomes carved out of a former mission-style church built in 1928. This three-story end-unit luxury townhome ties together modern and industrial touches with original architectural elements.

The home, at 601. E. Ridgewood St. blocks away from Lake Eola, is listed for $1,899,500 and, according to property records, is being sold by Michael and Elisa Filoramo.

The Diocese of Orlando sold the church building in 2014 to developer Mark Kinchla, who transformed it into townhomes. He called the new property “Samsara,” Sanskrit for rebirth.

“Whoever buys this place, you really kind of own a really unique piece of history and a unique piece of art,” Drew Belani, the listing agent with Compass, told GrowthSpotter. “It’s something I think is very, very special and took a lot of vision to create.”

On the first floor is a mudroom with original tile and a separate entry door. There also is a room with an en suite bathroom that could serve as an office space or a guest bedroom. There are also two garage spaces.

The second floor is home to two bedrooms, each with their own dedicated bathrooms. The master bathroom comes with ample counter space and a walk-in closet with built-in shelving units.

The third floor is the heart of the home with a modern kitchen featuring an island, a connected dining room and living room and a half-bath. Walk up the stairs to the loft and you’ll find a wet bar and a door leading to a rooftop deck with a view of Lake Eola and downtown Orlando.

A major selling point for the home, Belani said, is the location.

“Location-wise, it’s located right smack in the middle of everything,” he said.

It’s perfect for anyone who wants to “experience Orlando at a high level,” Belani added.

It’s in the historic Lake Eola Heights neighborhood, just minutes from the Mills 50 or Thornton Park Districts. It’s within walking distance to a Publix, restaurants and downtown Orlando. Plus, the home’s rooftop deck makes for the perfect viewing spot to watch July 4 fireworks over Lake Eola.

The property has been on the market for a little less than a month. Belani said he’s been getting nothing but good feedback from potential buyers.

“Everyone thinks it’s beautiful,” he said. “I think people don’t know what to expect when they come in…  It’s really one of the coolest properties I’ve ever come across.”
