Disney Cruise Line’s new Canaveral-bound ship Disney Treasure floated out at shipyard

While Disney Cruise Line dropped oodles of news this week about its new 2025 ship Disney Destiny, it has another new ship set to debut this year that hit a milestone at its shipyard on Saturday.

The Disney Treasure under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany was floated out into the shipyard harbor out from under the massive building where it has been taking shape since March 2023.

“A scene of excitement greeted the ship, as a group of cheering spectators … gathered to watch the special construction milestone,” reads a post on the Disney Parks Blog with images of the event. “The Float Out celebrates the completion of the ship’s exterior and is a significant maritime tradition.”

The 144,000-gross-ton vessel was led by tugboat stern-first through the building’s narrow doorway with just three feet of clearance on either side of the vessel, the post reads.

“The Disney Treasure is now ready for finishing touches to its interior venues as it continues to prepare for its transatlantic journey to its future home port in Florida,” Disney posted.

The sister ship to Disney Wish, which also sails from Port Canaveral, is the second of its Wish class, slightly larger than the older Disney Dream and Fantasy, but still aiming for a 4,000-passenger capacity.

It’s slated to take on seven-night Caribbean itineraries from the Orlando-area port beginning in December. The next milestone for the ship will be its conveyance along the Ems River so it can perform sea trials in the open water before it’s handed over to the cruise line.

The ship had its keel laid in March 2023 and is expected to be complete after 20 months of construction.

Haunted Mansion bar is coming to Disney’s new cruise ship

Among spaces coming to the ship are bars inspired by the Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea theme park attractions and an Aladdin-themed Grand Hall atrium. Its top deck will once again feature the AquaMouse water coaster-dark ride combo. One new dining venue on board will be themed to the Pixar movie “Coco.”

A third Wish-class ship, Disney Destiny, had its keel laid at the shipyard this year, with its delivery not slated until late 2025. That ship is headed to Port Everglades for a November debut next year, which along with the new Disney Adventure headed to Singapore next year will bring the DCL fleet to eight vessels.

Disney’s first two ships, Disney Magic and Wonder, debuted in 1998 and 1999, followed by sister ships Disney Dream and Fantasy in 2011 and 2012.
