Health inspectors shut down 9 Central Florida restaurants and a food truck last week
The Department of Business and Professional Regulation shut down 10 Central Florida dining venues for health code violations during the week from Jan. 4-10.
Orange
Kome at 2407 S. Hiawassee Road in Orlando shut down on Jan. 6. Inspectors found 19 violations, four of which were high priorities. Those violations included spiders on the ceiling of a restroom, roaches and a spray hose at the disk sink being lower than the flood rim of the sink. A second inspection occurred on Jan. 8. There were eight violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Cayjo at 6601 Old Winter Garden Road in Orlando shut down on Jan. 7. Inspectors found 26 violations, five of which were high priorities. Those violations included an employee changing between tasks without washing their hands, roach activity and pesticides stored near food contact surfaces. A second inspection occurred on Jan. 9. Inspectors found nine violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant requires a follow-up inspection, but poses no immediate threat to the public.
Antille’s Cuisine at 2798 N. Hiawassee Road in Orlando shut down on Jan. 5. Inspectors found 23 violations, four of which were high priorities. Those violations included rodent activity, backed-up sewage water and a stop-sale on food due to adulteration. A second inspection occurred the same day. There were 14 violations, three of which were high priorities. The restaurant had no more evidence of rodent activity and received a time extension for the adulteration of the food product. The restaurant met inspection standards.
BurgerFi at 4100 N. Alafaya Trail, Suite 125, in Orlando, shut down on Jan. 5. Inspectors found 10 violations, two of which were high priorities for backed-up wastewater and an air gap between the water supply inlet and flood rim of the equipment sink. A second inspection occurred on Jan. 6. Inspectors found six violations, one of which was a high priority for the air gap issue. It was corrected on site. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Build My Burgers at 3402 Technological Ave., Suite 136, in Orlando, shut down on Jan. 6. Inspectors found 12 violations, only one of which was a high priority for roach activity. A second inspection occurred the same day. There were eight violations, and the restaurant received a time extension to fix the roach activity. A final inspection occurred on Jan. 7. Inspectors found seven violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.
3JS Food Concession LLC, a food truck located at 1097 S. Clarke Road in Ocoee, shut down on Jan. 9. Inspectors found 10 violations, three of which were high priorities for not having potable running water, having ant and roach spray underneath a three-compartment sink and roach activity. The venue was revisited on Jan. 13 when inspectors found four violations including two deemed high priority. It received administrative complaints for the lack of potable water and the roach activity, but no vermin was found during the followup, and inspectors allowed it to reopen saying it met inspection standards.
Brevard
Cocoa Beach Country Club at 500 Tom Warriner Blvd. in Cocoa Beach shut down on Jan. 6. Inspectors found seven violations, three of which were high priorities. Those violations included flying insects behind the bar, raw beef in a container stored above vegetables in a cooler and more than 80 rodent droppings around various parts of the restaurant. A second inspection occurred on Jan. 7. Inspectors found zero violations. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Volusia
Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar at 2599 Enterprise Road in Orange City shut down on Jan. 7. Inspectors found seven violations, only one of which was a high priority for rodent activity. The issue was corrected on-site. A second inspection the same day found four violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards. This was the second time in two weeks the venue had been shut down.
The Parched Oak at 145 N. Woodland Blvd. in DeLand shut down on Jan. 5. Inspectors found 11 violations, five of which were high priorities. Those violations included a veggie broth that had a label date from Dec. 23 and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection occurred on Jan. 6. Inspectors found six violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant requires a follow-up inspection, but poses no immediate threat to the public.
Stoner’s Pizza Joint Daytona at 918 W. International Speedway Blvd., Building 1, in Daytona Beach, shut down on Jan. 8. Inspectors found one violation for rodent activity. A second inspection the same day found zero violations. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Total Inspections
Among all inspections across Central Florida, there were 3,648 violations total, including basic, intermediate and high violations.
Orange County had the most with 1,671, followed by Volusia with 515, Brevard with 454, Lake with 361, Osceola with 360 and Seminole with 287.
