Orange County tourist tax up in August, nearing annual record
Orange County tourist-tax revenues were up slightly in August from a year ago, pushing the fiscal year’s total closer to last year’s record haul.
Collections for the month, which tend to be smaller than average because families travel less as the school year starts, brought in $23.1 million, about $1 million more than in 2023. Revenues were down from July’s total by about $3.4 million, a drop that was expected.
With September’s collections not yet counted, the fiscal year total of $333.4 million is on pace to contest the Fiscal Year 2022-23 record of $359.3 million, significantly exceeding forecasts, according to a revenue report released Monday by Comptroller Phil Diamond.
If September’s number tops $25.9 million, 2023-24 will be the best year ever for the Tourist Development Tax, commonly called lTDT.
Monthly TDT collections have averaged $30.3 million through 11 months.
TDT revenues fund Visit Orlando, the region’s marketing agency; expansions and operations at the Orange County Convention Center; and additions and improvements to Camping World Stadium, the Kia Center and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
SpaceX launches Hera asteroid mission Monday, but delays Europa Clipper because of Hurricane Milton
SpaceX returned to flight with its Falcon 9 rocket Monday sending up the Hera probe for the European Space Agency on its way to a pair of asteroids, but SpaceX and NASA have called off plans to launch the Falcon Heavy later this week on NASA’s Europa Clipper mission to Jupiter’s moon because of the approaching Hurricane Milton.
SpaceX got the OK from the Federal Aviation Administration to launch Falcon 9, which had been grounded since the late September launch of the Crew-9 mission because of an issue with the Falcon 9 second stage missing its intended reentry target.

The FAA on Sunday, though, announced it was approving just the Hera mission since its launch was going to not feature a second stage reentry.
That Falcon 9 lifted off at 10:52 a.m. from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 40.
The first-stage booster flew for the 23rd and final time since it needed to be expended to get the payload to an interplanetary transfer orbit. The booster had previously flown both the Crew-1 and Crew-2 human spaceflight missions.

Travel Troubleshooter: Insurance company demands a repair invoice from Enterprise
DEAR TRAVEL TROUBLESHOOTER: I need your help with an insurance claim. I recently damaged a car I had rented through Enterprise while I was in Germany. In a nutshell, my car insurance company has been requesting a repair invoice from Enterprise for the past two months in order to close the claim and determine how much to pay them.
Enterprise wrote that they will not share additional documentation as requested by my car insurance and instead demands immediate payment.
My insurance company is giving me two months to get those documents from Enterprise. If I don’t obtain them, the claim will be closed, and the insurance company may not pay for it. Can you help me?
