The punch list includes things that need immediate attention. The punch list work must be done before the contractor can receive payment.

A punch list may include damages, incorrect installations, and other small fixes that need to be fixed.

The punch list should be well-written and thorough, and It should include all tasks that need and should be completed. A punch list is a great communication tool between contractors and subcontractors, owners, etc.  In today’s world, there’s many mobile apps that allow contractors to create punch lists.

A punch list is created near the end of a project. A detailed punch list can help a contractor solve misunderstandings or disputes – the list details the agreed-to plan, so it is a document every party can go back and refer to.

With a punch list, comes a punch list walk through. The contractor walks with the client/owner who will point out any issues or concerns they see with the project. The client/owner will list all work that is incomplete or done incorrectly. The contractor will collect a list from the client and hand out work to the subcontractors to make the final fixes until all is complete.

After all the punch list items are fixed, another walk through will occur and hopefully little to nothing is found wrong. For the job to be considered complete, the owner needs to sign off on the punch list.
