7 Central Florida restaurants shut down last week

Seven Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of March 30 – April 5, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Orange

Sunshine Soulfood Cafe at 2528 W. Colonial Dr. Suite B in Orlando shut down on April 2. Inspectors found 15 violations, three of which were high priorities. Those violations included roach activity, a stop-sale on potato salad being at the wrong temperature and food held at the wrong temperature. Inspectors conducted another inspection on April 3. They found five violations, only one was a high priority. Authorities issued a time extension and the restaurant met inspection standards.

Made In Puerto Rico Latin Cuisine & Sports Bar at 6651 S. Semoran Blvd. Suite #109 in Orlando shut down on April 3. Inspectors found 27 violations, six of which were high priorities. Those violations included operating with an expired license, roach activity and stop-sale issued on food due to temperature abuse. Officials revisited the restaurant on April 4. They found six violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Mito Sushi And Grill at 6764 Eagle Watch Dr. in Orlando shut down on April 3. Inspectors found 21 violations, five of which were high priorities. Those violations included an employee washing their hands with no soap, roach activity and food not being sold in a wholesome condition. Two more inspections occurred on April 4.

On the first inspection, officials found 20 violations, two of which were high priorities for roach activity and raw food stored over ready-to-eat food. On the final inspection, there were 15 violations with time extensions issued for the previous high priorities. The restaurant requires a follow-up inspection but no longer poses a threat to the public.

Lake

Ramshackle Cafe at 1317 N. 14th St. in Leesburg shut down on April 1. Inspectors found 14 violations, three of which were high priorities. Those violations included operating with an expired license, roach activity and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection occurred the same day. There were two violations. A time extension was issued for food held at the wrong temperatures. A final inspection was conducted on April 3. There was only one violation but it wasn’t a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Brevard

Ako Sushi and Seafood at 725 N. Washington Ave. in Titusville shut down on April 2. Inspectors found 19 violations, five of which were high priorities. Those violations included a container of improperly stored vitamins, rodent activity and a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse. A second inspection occurred on April 3. Inspectors found six violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Pita Paradise at 225 W. Cocoa Beach Causeway in Cocoa Beach shut down on April 2. Inspectors found 18 violations, six of which were high priorities. Those violations included an employee working with food without washing their hands, operating with an expired license and sewage wastewater in the kitchen. Inspectors conducted another inspection April 3. There was one violation for rodent activity, so the restaurant remained closed. There were two more inspections on April 4. Both had one high-priority violation for rodent activity. The restaurant eventually reopened on April 7 with zero violations.

Southern Sisters Cafe at 2242 Sarno Road in Melbourne shut down on April 2. Inspectors found 15 violations, three of which were high priorities for dead roaches under the sink, raw food stored over ready-to-eat food and roach activity. A second inspection occurred on April 3. Inspectors found three violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Complaints and warnings

Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida with 34.

Seminole had 20, Volusia had 18, Brevard had 13, Lake had 10 and Osceola had six.
