Health inspectors shut down 8 Orange County restaurants last week

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation shut down eight Central Florida restaurants for health code violations during the week from Nov. 30 to Dec. 6.

Orange

Loading Zone at 24 E. Washington St. in Orlando shut down on Dec. 2. Inspectors found 15 violations, four of which were high priorities for rodent activity, roach activity, a stop-sale on food not being in wholesome condition and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection occurred on Dec. 3. There were five violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant remained closed. A third and final inspection occurred the same day. There were four violations. None was a high priority. The restaurant requires a follow-up inspection, but it is not an immediate threat to the public.

Planet Pizza at 14 W. Washington St. in Orlando shut down on Dec. 3. There were four violations. Two were a high priority for rodent activity and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection occurred the next day. There were zero violations and the restaurant met inspection standards.

Tammy’s Teriyaki House LLC at 5600 W. Colonial Dr., Suite 108, in Orlando shut down on Dec. 3. There were 18 violations, two of which were high priorities for roach activity and ready-to-eat food not being separated from raw animal food. As of Tuesday afternoon, the restaurant remained closed.

Einstein Bros Bagels #3676 at 4639 S. Kirkman Road in Orlando shut down on Dec. 5. There were 12 violations, three of which were high priorities for an employee failing to wash their hands before putting on their gloves to work with food, flying insects and roach activity. A second inspection occurred on Dec. 6. There were seven violations including one deemed high priority for roach activity. The restaurant remained closed. The final two inspections were on Dec. 8. On the first, there were six violations and a high-priority violation for roach activity. On the final inspection, there were five violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

A’s Pizza Loco at 9401 W. Colonial Dr., Suite 256, in Ocoee shut down on Dec. 3. There were 11 violations, three of which were high priorities for roach activity, a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection occurred on Dec. 4. There were the same number of violations. Officials issued a time extension on all three high-priority violations and since there was no sign of vermin, the restaurant met inspection standards.

Hoffner Catering & Supply at 4880 B Distribution Court, Unit 1-2, in Orlando shut down on Dec. 2. There were 43 violations, eight of which were high priorities. Those violations included flying insects, rodents, roaches and food contact surfaces not being sanitized after cleaning and before use. A second inspection occurred on the same day. There were 19 violations, only one of which was a high priority for pots, trays and utensils not being properly sanitized. The restaurant, however, met inspection standards. A third and final visit on Dec. 4 had 24 violations. There was only one high-priority violation for not cleaning pots, trays and utensils. Officials issued the restaurant a time extension and the restaurant met inspection standards.

 Total Inspections

Among all inspections across Central Florida, there were 3,153 violations total, including basic, intermediate and high violations.

Orange County had the most with 1,347, followed by Volusia with 536, Brevard with 497, Osceola with 332, Seminole with 258 and Lake with 183.
