Discovery Cove: Meet (and name) baby flamingo

Discovery Cove, SeaWorld Orlando’s day resort, has introduced its new baby pink flamingo to the world.

The Caribbean flamingo chick hatched May 22 after a monthlong incubation period. It is currently on a diet that is high in fat and protein. The baby is expected to reach adult size in about four months, and it will be completely pink in two to three years, according to a news release from Discovery Cove.

The attraction will hold a name the flamingo contest for the chick via its Instagram page (@DiscoveryCove). Voting will be held there June 24-28.  Its parents are LJ, the birdie dad, and Abby, a first-time mom.

The chick will be full grown within a few months, but turning pink takes longer, Discovery Cove says. (SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment)
