There are endless listicles online about how to make extra income while working full time, but how many of those options are realistic for busy moms? As master multi-taskers short on time, moms often need flexibility if they’re going to take on a side gig.

Sometimes a hobby, passion or skill you do effortlessly can make you extra money. Other times, you may need to acquire certain skills to make extra cash. Four full-time working moms — including myself — share gigs that fall into both categories.

Writing

Resume writing is one way Tonnesha Edmond, owner of Pretty Resumes and a mother to two kids in Lawrenceville, Georgia, makes extra income. Additionally, Edmond provides services like job application assistance and business proposals to clients.

“I’ve always been a great writer, so my family and friends would come to me to help them with their resume and I’ve always been a great researcher,” she says. “So even if I wasn’t super familiar with the job they were going after, I knew how to do the research so I could put together a resume that will actually help them get the job.” read more

Universal Orlando has confirmed that construction walls at Universal CityWalk are standing in front of an expansion of its Universal Studios Store.

The new areas will have direct theme-park ties. They will be tied to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and to Super Nintendo World, which is one of the lands planned for Universal’s under-construction Epic Universe theme park.  Wizarding World also will be represented at Epic with Ministry of Magic attractions, joining scenes from Hogwarts at Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida theme park.

The Potter area in the CityWalk store also will sell butterbeer — including the cold, frozen, hot and vegan varieties — at a dedicated counter, Universal says.

The spaces at the CityWalk store, located on the complex’s main level, were leased to non-Universal businesses previously.

The latest store expansion and Epic are both scheduled to open sometime in 2025.  Universal CityWalk already is the home of an Epic preview center that features merchandise and a large model that uses augmented reality to showcase the future attractions. read more

SpaceX passed 60 launches for the year from the Space Coast early Thursday with a Falcon 9 mission taking a set of five satellites to space.

The rocket flying the BlueBird 1-5 mission launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 40 at 4:52 a.m.

Its first-stage booster flew for the 13th time and brought a sonic boom to parts of Central Florida with a return touchdown back at Canaveral’s Landing Zone 1 eight minutes after liftoff.

The payload is the first five of a new constellation of satellites for Midland, Texas-based AST SpaceMobile, part of a space-based cellular broadband network in low-Earth orbit to be accessible by everyday smartphones for both commercial and government use.

Beta test users will be for AT&T and Verizon with an eventual coverage area across the U.S. and in select global markets.

SpaceX is honing in on breaking its 2023 record for launches from either Kennedy Space Center or Cape Canaveral. It managed 68 last year.

So far in 2024, it has flown 60 of the 64 total launches among all Space Coast launch pads, with the other four coming from United Launch Alliance. read more

The four crew members of Polaris Dawn can breathe easy again after having vented the entire atmosphere of their SpaceX Crew Dragon so its commander and billionaire Jared Isaacman along with crewmate and SpaceX employee Sarah Gillis could venture outside the spacecraft and perform the first commercial spacewalk Thursday.

The duo performed the historic feat, each connected by a 12-foot-long tether, in less than two hours, each outside the spacecraft for a little more than 10 minutes.

Crewmates Scott Poteet and Anna Menon remained inside the Dragon, but all four had to wear SpaceX’s new extravehicular activity (EVA) suits because the spacecraft does not have an airlock — so they were all subjected to the vacuum of space.

Isaacman led the way opening the forward hatch of Dragon as it orbited 460 miles above the planet.

“Back at home, we all have a lot of work to do. But from here, it sure looks like a perfect world,” Isaacman said amid cheers from SpaceX headquarters during the company’s livestream of the event. read more
