Ten Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of July 21-27, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

It marked the most shutdowns in one week so far in 2024 among the six-county region of Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, Volusia and Brevard. Orange County led with four restaurants shuttered temporarily followed by two in Seminole and Volusia counties and one each in Lake and Brevard. No restaurants faced emergency orders in Osceola County last week.

Paradiso Pizzeria Restaurant at 1502 N. Semoran Blvd. in Orlando shut down on July 22. Inspectors found six violations, three of which were a high priority. Those violations include finding five live roaches, a stop sale on ricotta cheese and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection the same day found zero violations. The restaurant complied with the emergency order.

ATL Deli at 7427 W. Colonial Dr. in Orlando shut down on July 23. Inspectors found 16 violations, four of which were a high priority. Those violations included an employee using the bathroom and not washing their hands before washing the dishes, flying insects, rodent activity and rub marks on the ceiling. A second inspection on July 24 found 13 violations. Officials gave a time extension to the employee for not washing their hands. A follow-up inspection is required. read more

Disney Cruise Line revealed more details for its forthcoming cruise ship Disney Destiny on the second of three days of news being released this week focusing on the more nefarious side of the ship’s heroes and villains theme.

The cruise line started off Tuesday with the revelation of its home port to be Port Everglades along with some info about more heroic-leaning interior venues including a dinner theater spot themed to “The Lion King” and a sweets shop themed to “The Incredibles.”

Disney Destiny is a sister ship to Disney Wish and Disney Treasure. Disney Wish debuted in 2022 out of Port Canaveral while Treasure is set to arrive to Port Canaveral this December. The reveal for Disney Destiny’s full itineraries beginning “late 2025” is set to be announced Thursday on the third day of announcements.

But for day two, the line shifted to spaces dedicated to its villains including a new piano bar themed to the character Cruella de Vil from Disney’s “One Hundred and One Dalmatians” and a pub pulling inspiration from the theme park ride and film franchise for “Pirates of the Caribbean.” read more

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian says the airline is facing $500 million in costs related to a global tech outage this month that disrupted emergency services, communications and thousands of businesses.

Speaking on CNBC, Bastian said Wednesday that the monetary amount represents lost revenue as well as “the tens of millions of dollars per day in compensation and hotels” for the five-day period.

A week ago, CrowdStrike blamed a bug in an update that allowed its cybersecurity systems to push bad data out to millions of customer computers, setting off the global tech outage that grounded flights, took TV broadcasts off air and disrupted banks, hospitals and retailers.

Cybersecurity company CrowdStrike also outlined measures it will take to prevent the problem from recurring, including staggering the rollout of updates, giving customers more control over when and where they occur, and providing more details about the updates that it plans.

Among airlines, Delta was by far the hardest hit hard by the outage, having to cancel thousands of flights, because key systems were crippled by the incident. read more

The new Harry Potter land at Epic Universe theme park will feature a Ministry of Magic-based ride, a full-scale theater experience and characters roaming the streets of 1920s Place Cachee, Universal Orlando announced Wednesday.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic is the fifth Epic land to be detailed by Universal. It will have Parisian settings based on the “Fantastic Beasts” films and British elements from the “Potter” franchise created by author J.K. Rowling.

The news was made public on the birthday of the Harry Potter character, which is also Rowling’s birthday.

The centerpiece ride – dubbed Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry – will transport visitors from Paris to the British Ministry of Magic for the trial of Dolores Umbridge, once the cruel headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In the attraction storyline, Umbridge tries to escape, then the familiar wizarding trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione, plus a house-elf known as Higgledy, chase after her whilst dodging Death Eaters. read more

Boeing named an aerospace industry veteran with a background in mechanical engineering as its next chief executive Wednesday, looking to open a new chapter at a company rocked by legal, regulatory and production problems and mounting financial repercussions.

Robert “Kelly” Ortberg, a former CEO at aerospace manufacturer Rockwell Collins, will succeed David Calhoun as CEO and president effective Aug. 8, the company said. Calhoun said in March that he would retire at the end of the year, and analysts generally praised the quicker transition.

“There is much work to be done, and I’m looking forward to getting started,” Ortberg said in a statement issued by Boeing.

Boeing announced its new CEO as it reported a loss of more than $1.4 billion on falling revenue during the second quarter. The loss was wider and the company’s revenue lower than Wall Street’s dismal expectations, as both Boeing’s commercial-airplanes business and defense unit lost money.

The disappointing results came at a tumultuous time for Boeing, which is the subject of multiple investigations into its safety culture and manufacturing quality. read more
