Lockheed Martin’s controversial F-35 aircraft helped boost its earnings, with a surge in production and sales helping to push up the company’s share price Tuesday.

The company’s aeronautics division saw a profit increase in the first fiscal quarter of 23 percent, from $474 million to $585 million.
