An Orlando lawyer has pledged to donate $1 million to the family of the man killed during an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday.

Attorney and megadonor Dan Newlin said he felt “called upon to help fellow Americans.” He will also give $100,000 to the families of people injured at the rally.

“Democrat, Republican, independent — that had nothing to do with this,” Newlin, 56, said. “It had everything to do with knowing I could help a family while supporting our democracy.”

Trump left the Saturday rally bloodied but “safe” after a bullet pierced his right ear. A gunman fired multiple shots into the crowd from a nearby rooftop before the Secret Service killed him, authorities said.

Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old volunteer firefighter from Pennsylvania who attended the rally with his family, was shot and killed by the gunman. Two other attendees, David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, were wounded and are in stable condition. read more

The long-awaited return of EA Sports’ college football series happens this week, ushering in a new gaming era that reflects the changing landscape of college athletics and allows users to play as their favorite players.

The game, EA Sports’ first college football offering since 2013, was developed in Orlando and, for the first time, will feature the names, images and likenesses of actual players at their respective institutions.

Customers who purchased the deluxe edition or have an EA Play membership could play College Football 25 on Monday afternoon, but it will be widely released on Friday.

Andrew Barr, 17, bought the deluxe edition and then for his first try played the University of Central Florida against cross-state rival the University of South Florida. The game exceeded his expectations.

“The crowd reactions, hearing the band and the specific college cheers definitely makes the game very fun,” said Andrew, a student at Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs. “Once I heard the band drums go off and the loading screen came up, it brought up so much joy and excitement.” read more

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A company is now selling $299 sneakers showing an image of Donald Trump with streaks of blood on his cheek and pumping his fist in the air after he was the target of an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.

The white high tops are being sold as “FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT High-Tops” for $299 on a website that sells Trump-branded shoes that is run by CIC Ventures LLC, a company that Trump reported owning in his 2023 financial disclosure. The company says the new shoes are limited edition with only 5,000 pairs available and estimated to ship in September or October. It also said 10 pairs will be randomly autographed.

Elon Musk said Tuesday on X that he is moving the headquarters of both SpaceX and the social media platform formerly known as Twitter to Texas — citing several criticisms he has of California and doing business in San Francisco.

Noting a new state law that bans teachers from telling families about student gender identity changes, Musk tweeted that he is moving the headquarters of SpaceX from Hawthorne in Los Angeles County to the company’s launchpad site in Texas.

The move would be a blow to Southern California, where SpaceX has helped to anchor a burgeoning space economy.

“This is the final straw,” tweeted Musk shortly after noon. “Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.”

The law the SpaceX founder cited was signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday after a contentious battle between conservative school boards concerned about parental rights and LGBTQ+ activists worried about vulnerable youths. read more

These groups exist because there is a demand for them, says Amanda Christensen, founder of Utah Money Moms as well as an accredited financial counselor and extension professor at Utah State University. On the Utah Money Moms site, women can pick up tips on topics such as how to save money, how to discuss finances with a partner and how to trim expenses.

“I created the site in an attempt to make personal finance more approachable for women,” she says, citing the gender wage gap and research that shows fewer women feel confident about finances compared with men. read more
